Disappointment to Delight: My Client’s Boudoir Photography Journey
Stepping into the world of boudoir photography was a decision she made with a mix of excitement and apprehension. She wanted to capture her femininity and celebrate her body, but she also harbored insecurities and concerns about the process. Her initial experience with a different boudoir photographer only amplified those fears, leaving her feeling disheartened and self-conscious.
The first photographer she booked was new to the genre and although she tried her best, her inexperience ended up tarnishing the whole session. The photographer’s instructions only exacerbated her nerves: “relax your face” (my client said to me later, “what’s wrong with my face??”), and the photographer’s feedback (though not intentional) focused more on flaws than strengths. The experience left my client questioning whether boudoir photography was right for her. Was she too old? Was she crazy for doing this just for herself? Should she even try to do this a second time?
Despite her disappointment, she still held on to the desire to have empowering and beautiful photos of herself. That’s when she decided to give it another try, but this time she took a more cautious approach. She carefully researched photographers, read reviews, looked for portfolios that included women closer to her age and body type, and sought recommendations from girlfriends.
I’m so excited that her search led her to me! Hearing her story broke my heart a bit because it’s a story I’ve heard too often. I believe that every woman deserves to see how beautiful she is and the greatest reward in my job is getting to show her that. We hit it off right away and I was on fire to create an unforgettable experience unique to her!
A common misconception I hear is that women believe that it’s their responsibility to come to me knowing how to pose, or what expressions to make. Sis, that ain’t it! I’ve spent years learning, understanding, and practicing posing and I take that responsibility seriously. You show up, I’ll make you feel like a rockstar.
Before the shoot, we carefully selected her outfits and chatted about her vision for the photos. We also chose a talented hair and makeup team who would expertly enhance her features without altering her natural beauty.
Throughout the shoot, I was able to gently guide and direct her into poses that accentuated her rockin’ curves and helped her feel confident in front of the camera. Like I said, I’m here to be YOUR hype girl, your cheerleader and your coach and I will do everything I can to get you the best photos for you.
When she came to her reveal appointment, she was speechless! Her boudoir photography journey started with disappointment but ended with delight.
