Self-Care for the Stressed Out

silhouette boudoir

Hey gorgeous! It’s Andrea, your friendly neighborhood boudoir photographer, back with a dose of real talk about self-care. Let’s face it, running a business, wrangling small humans (who seem to be becoming young women overnight!), and keeping the house from resembling a disaster zone – it’s enough to make even the most #bossbabe entrepreneur wants to crawl under the covers with a large McDonald’s french fries.

I am normally a goal oriented, motivated gal, but lately that’s been hard to come by. There are days when meal prepping feels like scaling Mount Everest and that gym trip? Forget it. But here’s the thing: self-care isn’t about achieving some Instagram-worthy level of perfection. It’s about showing up for yourself, even when you’d rather just hide. So here’s a pep talk for myself and perhaps it will resonate with someone else out there.

A few years ago I came across a great quote (I think I even shared it in my VIP Group) and it’s stuck with me. It said “You will never always be motivated, so you must learn to be disciplined”. Hearing that gave me permission to give myself grace when motivation wanes, and that I have a tool to fall back on.

Think of it like this: I wouldn’t cancel a client shoot because I “don’t feel like it,” would I? I show up, put on my professional panties, and create something beautiful. The same goes for self-care.

Those days when healthy meals seem like a chore? I start my day with a protein shake loaded with spinach. It might not be gourmet, but starting my day off right helps. W  hen I can’t squeeze in a full gym session I make myself prioritize movement even if it’s just getting up from my desk every hour and walking in my studio. Every little bit counts!

The key is to set realistic goals. A complete lifestyle overhaul overnight isn’t going to work. Start small, like committing to one healthy meal a day or a 10-minute power walk. As consistencies build, you’ll be surprised by how much easier it becomes to prioritize yourself.

Remember, self-care isn’t selfish. It’s the fuel that keeps your fire burning bright. When you feel good, you show up as a better mom, boss, and friend. So, fake it ’til you make it, ladies! Even small steps towards self-care can lead to a big transformation.

Now, go out there and conquer your day! And hey, if you need a little pampering session to jumpstart your self-care journey, you know where to find me 😉
