What to Expect from Your Boudoir Session

boudoir photography

Well first of all, you should totally be expecting a party, booze, and more clever (in my opinion, anyway) names for your boobies than you ever thought you’d hear. Also prepare for approximately 47 “That’s what she said” jokes because I’m basically a junior high boy except with booze that I obtained legally, but I digress.

Once you’ve booked your session, we will start off with your boudoir consultation appointment in my studio. This is your chance to ask any and all questions that you have about your session and my chance to ally all your fears. This the only time you are allowed to tell me what you don’t like about your body; after this, any negative self-talk is strictly off limits! You are a goddess and are only to be spoken of in terms that reflect it!

This is also our chance to brainstorm outfits. We can fit a number of outfits/looks depending on which session you choose, giving you plenty of opportunities to have a lot of options in the final product. You can choose all lingerie, bra and panties and a comfy sweater, or go with something a little less expected like a tight dress and heels, something that reflects something important to you or your partner (clients have brought musical instruments, specific outfits for sports teams, scrubs or white coats for their partner that was in the medical field,) the ideas are only limited to your vision and your imagination. And don’t even get me started on the accessories! Shoes and hats and pearls and heels and masks and furs! Oh my! But that’s a whole different blog post.

We will also go over hair and makeup options, ideas, and my recommendations for local vendors. This is a once in a lifetime event. Even if you have a boudoir shoot every year (and I’m guessing you don’t) each one is special and unique because you’ll never again be the exact same person that you are at this moment in your life again. Having your hair and makeup professionally done not only will make you feel more confident and beautiful but the local artists that I recommend are familiar with doing hair and makeup specifically for photography. Hair and makeup for a session is a little different than daily makeup and having an experienced professional do it can make all the difference in the final product. Besides, it’s just so much fun!

The most important thing we will discuss is how we are going to best showcase your finished portraits. The most popular option is an album because it’s an exquisite way to preserve all of your favorite images. There are lots of other options, however, and we can go over them in detail at your appointment, complete with samples and tons of ideas!

The day of your session you’ll arrive at the studio about an hour before your session for your hair and makeup. We’ll crank the music and pop some bubbly and laugh and laugh and laugh. This is a party, girlfriend! And we are here to celebrate you!

Your actual session is going to be a lot more laughing and inappropriate jokes and what I like to call “sexy yoga”. So many women come into their boudoir sessions and tell me that they aren’t good at posing or they aren’t good at being sexy or they aren’t good at blah blah blah, but I’ve been doing this for years (and years and years, but let’s not think too hard about that). It’s mostly about good lighting and great posing and, girl, posing is my jam! You’re in good hands; I promise. And I can guarantee that you’re going to have so much fun doing this!

About a week after your session you’ll be back in the studio for your viewing appointment. This is where you’ll pick out your favorite images, make your final decisions on your chosen product, and we will discuss important design decisions. This is often the most overwhelming part of the boudoir process for many clients but no need to worry, I’ll hold your hand and guide you every step of the way.

This isn’t just my job, this is my passion. Nothing in this world brings me joy quite like helping a woman see what a wonderful, incredible, beautiful goddess she is and I accomplish that with my experience in boudoir photography. I didn’t just start this yesterday, and I know how the value of the trust that my clients place in me. Thank you for being here, I am so excited to work with you.
